Climate Change and Global Warming are the hot topics of the world!
Sadly, the pace at which problems are evolving, solutions are not!
With every passing year, the situation becomes more complex and critical.
Critical enough that it is not wrong to say – that the time to restore is ticking and that too quickly.
Many organisations and individuals are making efforts worldwide, but they seem insufficient to counter the damage already made and continuously inflicted by us.
Seems like something is missing!
Something that we are not doing right!
But what is it?
Is Climate Change something that we are not aware of?
We are!
Is it something that we all don’t know how to tackle?
We know!
Is it like we are not doing anything about it?
We are – in our own way!
So, what is missing?
The answer is simple…
We think the government should do something, and the government thinks people should do something.
This blame game has been going on forever!
But don’t you think we all need to be in this together – making constant efforts?
Can a government or a few people restore our planet?
No, that’s not possible!
It’s like ten kids trying to build a block house while eight of them are dismantling it.
How can the house ever be completed?
This is what’s happening in the world!
While a few conscious individuals are trying to protect the environment, many more are destroying it every second.
How do we think we are ever going to achieve those grand promises made from the fanciest stages in the world?
Most importantly, isn’t it all our responsibility to protect and sustain what we have been gifted by nature?
This question was raised during one of our team meetings where we contemplated how days like Earth Day and Environment Day can be celebrated differently.
You know how we all like to claim we care so much about the environment, and we are a 100% climate-friendly company that supports zero emissions, and we are committed to reducing our consumption?
But our team members at Covrize were not ok with these mere efforts we will eventually forget by the next morning!
It’s not like we don’t do anything, but not in a way that would make a difference!
So, to make that difference – we decided to do something!
Brainstorming for Impactful Earth Day activities
We all started pondering…
What we can do that not only makes a real impact but also brings a sense of responsibility and willingness into our lives.
Some suggested tree planting on the streets and taking care of it, but are we really going to visit them and water those saplings every day?
Do we have that much time, even if we are willing to?
That plan got cancelled!
Some said, “From today, let’s do carpooling!” and others replied, “We already do that!”
That idea went down the drain as well!
So – Now what?
We didn’t want to do something for some social media clickbait – we really wanted something that remains in our minds forever, evoking a sense of responsibility.
So, what can we do?
After a lot of “we should do this” and “no, not that,” we came to a conclusion…
Why not just stick to our core philosophy of being Small but Smarter?
Taking small actions that could drive a deeper and larger impact.
So finally, the idea came out;
Let’s glorify our office desk with little plants!
But the task was, that we could only use the waste bottles, mugs or containers and no high-maintenance fertilizer to plant them.
And suddenly, everyone agreed!
The plan was to initiate the plantation on Earth Day 2024 and keep tracking the growth—it was on coming Environment Day, which is exactly 45 days from the day of the plantation, where will gather again to observe the change.
Each one of us will have one such sapling to take care of on our desk.
One that we must nurture and take full responsibility for its growth, no matter what!
Earth Day 2024 - Our Green Initiative
On Earth Day 2024, a huge money plant was brought into the office!
We were told to bring some unused vases or bottles that we were not using or we might dump them.
We also brought organic fertilizers and done!
We cut different branches of the money plant, put them into clean water, added the fertilizer and then the rest of what happened is what made the difference for all of us!
Each one of us had these cute little office desk plants placed by our side to take care of.
Catch a glimpse here!
And that’s how we celebrated our Earth Day!
Do you like it?
No?
Does it look like a cheap idea to you?
Well, it might!
You could say – we could have done something better!
But we would like you – to save that comment for the end of the blog.
Until then, please keep reading…
The Day After - A Newfound Commitment
What happened next?
Well, that day we enjoyed our plantation party and had a fun time.
But what happened after that was a bit surprising!
The next day, when everyone came back to the office, their first concern was their plant!
That plant that was there on the desk!
Some might say, “Oh, their so-called responsibility!”
But yes, they were concerned!
Some of them poured water, some just checked whether it had grown a bit, and some were just watching their little green companion sitting on their desk!
You won’t believe it, but our fellow colleagues have been keeping up with their plants in such a way that they might miss a message but not their green fella and what it might need!
Just kidding – they keep up with the messages as well!
We are professionals!
But what was surprising to note was – how attached they all became to a plant that was just part of a simple activity.
They cared and made it a priority to make sure they took care of it and did what was needed!
And that’s the sense and emotion that we all are missing!
We started understanding what it feels like to be connected with nature and its elements.
45 Days Latter – It was Environment Day 2024
Something has changed—and it was not just our plants that bloomed, but a little something in each of us that made us happy to watch them grow.
The feeling was surreal, those tiny little leaves that came out and those roots that started outgrowing those containers.
We all have witnessed something we would have hardly noticed even if we had planted it on the streets or a garden.
These little creatures🌱not only made our office greener but also roused something deeper in all of us.
A sense of responsibility—like how, with a little effort, we can make a huge difference within us as a person and the Environment.
We have understood the mere concept of caregiving and what it takes for anything to grow.
The pace, the patience—it’s all about how we treat our mind while chasing all the perfects and checking off the essentials.
While, what was actually needed was, the connection – which most of us were missing while in the chase.
These toddler plants are now part of us and we feel privileged to watch and observe them grow with each passing day.
But…It doesn’t end here!
We understood that individual efforts matter, but to make the wave, collective effort at a larger level is required.
Let us understand what it means!
Impact of Collective Efforts for a Sustainable Future
Think about it!
When we all start saving electricity, saving tap water, carpooling, consuming only what is needed, and keeping the thought of sustainability awake every step of the way, what can happen?
How much carbon emission can we control?
How many resources can we save?
How much change can we bring?
Our activity was not just to provide more green space for the office and make our desks look better than they already do.
The task was to evoke a sense of responsibility, witness the result of collective efforts, and realize that small efforts can make a big difference.
To protect nature, we all need to use resources carefully and consciously, but we all need to do that!
Not just some of us, but all of us, no matter how small.
Until we all make efforts, we can’t achieve what is set to be achieved in the next 5-10 years!
Endnote
More than big changes, the world needs small efforts made consciously every day.
We don’t need to wait for Earth Day and Environment Day events to start and take action.
But by making such consistent efforts, we can make a significant impact and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
Our team at Covrize has started making such tiny strides and would like you to do the same.
As our tagline says —Collective We Rise!—we believe in the power of collective efforts done right.
Remember, it’s not just about what we do today, but about building habits that last a lifetime.
Let’s plant the seeds of change now for a thriving planet tomorrow!
Feel free to connect with us and share any idea that allows us to join forces in doing the best we can for our environment!
